BIO-
Texas hip-hop artist Doc Strange is the definition of “not new to this, I’m true to this” as he’s fully committed himself to being an independent artist. Strange records all of his records, while producing the majority of them as well. Jumping onto the scene in 2001, Strange’s work as a self-made artist has led him to travel the universe performing with legends and underground darlings alike. In fact, you’ve probably heard Doc Strange at some point as he’s performed at festivals, charity events, been on the radio, featured in prominent publications and more. Over the course of his career Strange has also been nominated and won multiple awards for the work he’s put in over his almost 20 year tenure. Doc Strange’s origins can be traced all the way back to when he was six years old working with his father who owned a disco in his hometown of Wichita Falls. From the jump Strange was imbued and empowered hearing the best music at the time at a constant rate. However it was Eric B and Rakim’s “Paid In Full” music video that pushed Strange over the edge. “I had never seen or heard anything like that in my life,” he recalls. Fast forward to 2001 and by this time Strange had absorbed, studied and experienced the Golden Era of Hip-Hop along with a myriad of influences ranging from the Hieroglyphics to David Bowie, from Sun Ra to George Clinton. Doc Strange started doing local shows and even had a track on radio station K105.7 for a contest. This track would proceed to dominate the contest for two whole weeks. Meanwhile Doc Strange is literally watching the rise of the underground hip hop scene online. Feeling recharged and realizing his unique approach to music Strange was ready to take his career to the next level and pressed up a local CD called “Rhyme Like This”. Strange would continue performing making a profit with shows, CD sales and merchandise, all of this would be a springboard to the prolific self-made artist we see today. This would lead our Texas hero to releasing his debut album “Skoolboyhustlertoo” inspired completely by his life at the time. “I wanted to make my own “Only Built For Cuban Links” Strange recalls. Self-produced “Skoolboyhustlertoo” focused on Strange’s life in college and the activities he would engage in, whether legal or not. An early taste of Strange showed he had an ear for making diverse production that an underground fan or mainstream fan could enjoy and even featured the legendary Sadat X. Just a few years later Doc Strange would release what most (himself included) deem to be his best work in “Sindrome”. In fact Doc Strange would win “Best R&B/Hip-Hop Artist” during the Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards in 2016 upon release. The streak of strong collaborations continued with Kool Keith and Tahiti coming through on “Telekinesis”. In 2018 Strange would also release “AAA” which would include another legendary collaboration this time with Guilty Simpson. Further, the experimentation from Doc Strange mixed with his catchy and mesmerizing lyrics cemented his legacy in Texas hip-hop history. Doc Strange is easily one of the more creative and unique artists we have today and that creativity shined even brighter in 2019 with his album “Espionage!”. Inspired wholly by Strange’s love for James Bond, the Texas star teamed up with another Texas emcee/producer in Menace. This time Menace played the role of producer and Strange stepped in to rip the beats to shreds. The list grows longer with the strength of his output landing him coverage from XXL, the9elements, illuminati2g and more. This would also lead our space age hero to perform at multiple SXSW showcases, shows with the Hieroglyphics’ Opio during his “Triangulation Station Tour”, a show R.A The Rugged Man on the “Definition of a Rap Flow” Tour and more. Housing over a 500,000 streams across all platforms, Strange is still just getting started after all this time and in fact wants to be more prolific moving forward. Strange is not of this Earth or timeline it seems, open your ears before he skips to the next timeline.
